Hello all! It has been a while. I will admit, life got the better of me for a while. I wanted to do a post marathon reflection of my training and the race itself.
Training Reflection:
I had the best support team. Every weekend without fail I ran with people who supported me when I faltered, kept me running when I wanted to quit, and gave me so much advice. Not only did we have in person meet ups but we also had an active Facebook group and a chat group that kept me sane through the winter.
The training schedule was not my favorite. I changed it often to fit my needs, which means sometimes I didn’t have the full training. I know for my next race I want to add speed training to my weekly schedule. I also needed to figure out nutrition for the day to day, as well as race day. Things to figure out.
Marathon Reflection:
The start of the marathon went well. My running group went together. I was feeling strong! I felt that way until around 18 miles. Then the tiredness started to kick in. My hip started to hurt and I could feel my whole body. I was getting to the point where I was starting to give up. That’s where the team around me came in. For the next race, I want to slow down in the start to conserve my energy and be able to sprint in the end.
Conclusion:
Would I do this again? Yes, in fact I think I am going to do it again next year. Once you start doing this kind of thing, I think it sticks with you and you just get better.
